EV charging provider Zapgo has signed a new deal to bring its services to clubs across multiple levels of English football. The agreement with club body Fair Game will see Zapgo install and support charging infrastructure at clubs up and down the country, adding charging options for fans and additional income for clubs. Fair Game represents 33 clubs across League One, League Two, the Championship and non-league tiers, including Bristol Rovers, AFC Wimbledon, Worcester City and Gateshead FC.

Tesla has announced a new finance deal knocking £100 per month off the price of its best-selling Model Y. The latest price reduction brings the entry-level version of Tesla’s mid-sized SUV down to £299 per month but customers will have to be quick to take advantage of the deal. Announced shortly before the registration plate change on 1 September, the offer is only available on cars ordered from Friday 23 August and delivered before Friday 13 September 2024.

The Cupra Tavascan will go on sale from early September, the Spanish car maker has confirmed. The SUV coupe is the second model in Cupra’s all-electric line-up and will sit above the smaller Born hatchback in the range. Prices for the Tavascan start at £47,340, with order books opening on 11 September. However, the firm is also offering 50 early reservation slots which are open now for drivers keen to secure one of the first examples in the country.

The cost of charging an electric car in public remains one of the biggest talking points for EV owners, especially when planning longer journeys. Charging away from home can be far more expensive and in the midst of the summer holidays many EV drivers travelling abroad will have no choice but to rely on public networks. I recently spent a couple of weeks motoring around France in a Kia EV9 and was surprised by how cheap public charging was at a host of different providers.

Energy and EV charging provider SSE has opened its first dedicated ultra-rapid charging hub in Ireland. The 10-bay site in Mullingar, County Westmeath is designed to provide up to 150kW charging for cars and has been specifically built to accommodate eHGVs as well as passenger cars and smaller vans. The site features four large, drive-through bays for long-wheelbase trucks, making it the first in Ireland to provide for larger electric vehicles.

InstaVolt has announced a new off-peak charging rate to cut prices for drivers. The firm is the UK’s biggest rapid charging network but is also among the most expensive, with a standard price of 85p/kWh.From Sunday 1 September, however, drivers using its devices at off-peak times will pay a reduced rate of 54p/kWh, cutting costs by around a third. The firm says the move, which will apply across all 1,600 of its rapid chargers, will help drivers facing rising costs elsewhere.
