    The Republican City Committee is making an independent expenditure to have GOP voters write in Pat Dugan for district attorney. Dugan is challenging District Attorney Larry Krasner in the May 20 Democratic primary. No Republican filed to run for the office. Republicans need 1,000 write-ins for a specific candidate to be able to have a name on the ballot in November.

    Judicial candidates gathered Wednesday night for a forum at Bustleton Memorial American Legion Post 810, at 9151 Old Newtown Road. Fox Chase resident Melissa Robbins hosted the forum, asking yes-or-no questions for all candidates and other questions directed at specific candidates. All candidates for Common Pleas and Municipal Court in the May 20 primary were invited. There are 10 candidates for nine openings on Common Pleas Court and five candidates for three openings on Municipal Court.

    A group of activists from the Philadelphia Protestant Home recently got together for an event titled “Standing Up for Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare.”While most of the 40-plus participants are PPH residents, the Protestant Home did not sponsor the rally. Residents, many using walkers, marched out of the PPH main entrance and joined supporters on the 700 block of Levick St. to hold handmade signs in support of the federally funded social programs.

Guests heard from business council chairman Frank Porrazza; Jefferson Chief Operating Officer – North Region Richard Galup; Dr. Marcia Brose, Chief of Cancer Services, Jefferson Health – Northeast; and Christina Bender, director of development of Jefferson Health’s Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center and Clinical Programs.
