Offshore anglers have already been releasing blue marlin and sailfish in a recreational pursuit, but they will be a little more competitive in their offshore excursions now that May is here. The fourth annual South Carolina Blue Marlin Invitational got underway May 1, and three of the 2025 South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series tournaments are being fished this month, making for a lot of offshore excursions.

Golf lost one of its great champions April 19 when Jay Sigel died from complications of pancreatic cancer at the age of 81. Sigel, a Pennsylvania native, was the first golfer to attend Wake Forest on an Arnold Palmer scholarship, and it was at Wake Forest where an unfortunate accident directed his future to amateur golf. He was leaning against a glass door when someone inadvertently slammed the door and his left hand crashed through the glass.

Eloise Fetzer, a fifth grader at Daniel Island School, pulled off a tie for second the Girls 10-11 age group in the nationally televised Drive, Chip and Putt national finals held April 6 at Augusta National Golf Club. Representing the East region, Fetzer, 10, scored 19 points and tied with Penelope Philip of the Great Lakes region. Balla Simoes of the Southeast region won the Girls 10-11 age group with a score of 24. This was Fetzer's second trip to the national finals.
