AUSTIN (KXAN) - Researchers at Colorado State University (CSU) maintain an above-average forecast for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. CSU forecasts 17 named storms, 9 hurricanes, and 4 major hurricanes (Category 3+). The reasoning behind an aggressive forecast is based on warmer sea surface temperature anomalies in the eastern and central Atlantic and neutral ENSO conditions, which provide a more conductive environment for tropical development.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The National Weather Service conducted a damage survey Thursday morning for the Wednesday evening severe thunderstorm in the Austin metro area. The survey concluded that a long-track microburst, associated with a supercell, moved through Central Texas, bringing damaging winds, large hail, and localized flooding. The length of the damage was approximately 10 miles, with a path width ranging from 1 to 2.5 miles. Maximum sustained winds were estimated to be between 65 and 85 mph.
