After jumping ahead 16-9 in the first quarter, App State found themselves on the wrong end of a 10-0 run, allowing Marshall to claim their first lead of the game. Junior forward Elena Pericic capitalized on a fast break layup with four seconds remaining in the quarter, sending the Mountaineers into the second trailing 19-18.

App State women’s basketball defeated the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 61-52 on Thursday. This win marks the fourth win in a row for the team, three of which have come at home while propelling the Mountaineers to 8-2 in conference play and 12-8 overall.

Categories: January 25, 2025 App State women’s basketball began their four-game homestretch with a 74-66 victory Thursday against Old Dominion. The Mountaineers returned the favor following a 78-71 Monarch home victory on Jan. 15. The Black and Gold came into the conference clash 9-8 following a 68-64 win at Marshall. The Monarchs entered the contest 13-6, tied with the Black and Gold at 5-2 in the Sun Belt. The Mountaineers took control early, finishing the first quarter with a 15-8 lead.

When 165-pound senior Will Miller stepped on campus in 2021 after a whirlwind experience that was the recruiting cycle in 2020 and 2021, people imagined he would find success. However, he couldn’t picture the leader and champion he is now. “I remember his freshman year, he kind of looked like a frat dude. He didn’t take his diet or his training seriously, but now he’s bought in,” said 141-pound sixth-year redshirt senior Sean Carter.

App State wrestling was back in action Sunday, taking a triumphant 31-3 scoreline as they won 9 of the 10 matches against last year’s third-place team in the Southern Conference. The team mixed the lineup around in their first dual matchup of the 2025 calendar year, as five freshmen saw action, including 141-pound redshirt freshman Aldo Hernandez who made his dual debut for the Black and Gold. Hernandez’ last time out for the Mountaineers was at the Southern Scuffle on Jan. 5.
