Abstract To investigate whether robotic surgery (RS) decreases the risk of circumferential resection margin (CRM) positivity compared with conventional laparoscopic surgery (LS) in patients with rectal cancer (RC) undergoing mesorectal excision (ME). Although it is well known that CRM positivity affects postoperative outcomes in patients with RC undergoing ME, few studies have investigated whether RS is superior to conventional LS for the risk of CRM positivity.

AbstractCirculating tumor cells (CTCs) play an important role in metastasis and recurrence. However, which cells comprise the complex tumor lineages in recurrence and are key in metastasis are unknown in colorectal cancer (CRC). CRC with high expression of POU5F1 has a poor prognosis with a high incidence of liver metastatic recurrence.

Study design and patientsThis study evaluated 126 patients with CRC who underwent surgical resection from 2012 to 2013 for immunohistochemistry staining and overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) rate. Freshly resected CRC tissues and adjacent normal tissues were obtained immediately after surgical resection in 2020.
