ORONO - Binghamton baseball defeated Maine 9-4 on Friday afternoon, handing the Black Bears their fourth straight loss. Maine opened a three-game series with the Bearcats at Mahaney Diamond with a 9-4 loss, despite tying the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning. Binghamton opened scoring with a run in the first, but Maine answered in the second. Damon Gaither's bloop single to center scored Drew Reynolds, who tripled two batters earlier.
Husson baseball, softball advance to NAC semifinals with first round victories

BANGOR - Husson baseball and softball have won and advanced to day two of their conference championship tournaments. The Eagles' baseball squad, hosting the NAC Championship, took down SUNY Cobleskill 8-2 in their first game of the tournament, advancing to Friday's semifinal round to play Thomas College. The winner will get an automatic berth into Saturday's championship game. First pitch is at 11 a.m.On the softball diamond, Husson took care of business on the road.

ORONO - Maine softball opens up postseason play on Wednesday against third-seeded Albany in the America East Tournament. The Black Bears head into the conference tournament, hosted by top-ranked Binghamton, as the sixth seed. They play the Great Danes at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Maine enters the postseason 3-17 in conference play, but those three wins each came in the last five games.

BREWER - Despite falling behind early, Brewer baseball battled back for a 6-4 win over Bangor at home on Monday afternoon. The Rams struck first, scoring three in the first, two on a double from Scott Sockabasin, but Brewer settled in from there. In the third, Jake Perry scored the Witches' first run on a first-and-third double steal. Both starting pitchers were effective in the game.

ORONO - Maine softball split their double-header with Bryant University on Friday afternoon, dropping game one and taking game two 5-2. The Black Bears and Bulldogs battled for two scoreless innings in game one before Bryant brought home two on an RBI single from McKenzle McAloon. Bryant added three more in the fourth, and put up seven runs in the fifth for a 12-0 win. In game two, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead before Maine scored five unanswered.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Maine baseball lost in their series opener at Bryant on Friday, 5-3, after a go-ahead homer from the Bulldogs in the 8th inning. The Black Bears fell behind 2-0, but a two run homer from Damon Gaither tied the game in the top of the seventh. In the 8th, Aidan Bardi hit a solo shot to left field to give Maine a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Sebastian Holt inherited runners on second and third with one out.

HERMON - Dawson Curtis was the hero for Ellsworth on Thursday- smacking a solo home run in the first inning and tossing a complete game, four-hit shutout leading his team to a 1-0 win over Hermon. Curtis hit a solo homer to left in the first inning, and neither team would score again. His home run was the only Eagles hit in the game. On the mound for Hermon, Mason Kinney threw six strong innings, allowing just the one hit and striking out eight batters.

The Black Bears won their first two America East games of the season on Monday, taking down UMass-Lowell 1-0 in game one of a doubleheader before walking off for a win in game two.
