For all its underlying weirdness, Facebook Marketplace can be kind of cool sometimes. I bought my basement couch on Marketplace. Trapper Schoepp sold me some vintage barstools on Marketplace. I’ll eventually get around to listing a dumbbell set and a cat carrier there, too…unless any of you want to buy a dumbbell set and/or a cat carrier from me. Anyway, I just learned about another Facebook Marketplace treasure and, well, I need someone else to buy it immediately so Milwaukee Record doesn’t.

On Saturday, May 24, Milwaukee Record and Busby’s took over Morgan Park and brought a brand new spring festival to the one-acre triangle at the edge of the Bay View and Fernwood neighborhoods. From 12-6 p.m., the inaugural Morgan Park Picnic featured live music and yoga classes, area retailers, local beer and food purveyors, and fun for the whole family. We’re pleased to report the first-year festival far exceeded our expectations.

Between the pristine lake-adjacent setting, the wide selection of local goods, and its proximity to a beer garden, the South Shore Farmers Market is one of the best parts of summer in Milwaukee. As we enter Memorial Day weekend, Milwaukee’s summer festival schedule is really starting to take shape. Though there seems to be more going on in and around the city than ever before, one Milwaukee-area happening almost certainly won’t be returning in 2025. Following its first installment in the region last summer, it appears as if Phase Fest was just a phase. Not Just A Phase Festival—also referred to as “Phase Fest”—made its Wisconsin debut in nearby Franklin on June 23, 2024.

Since 2022, Third Space Brewing has added even more entertainment to Milwaukee’s well-stocked summer concert calendar with its “Third Space Presents” music series on its gorgeous outdoor deck stage. We’re pleased to report the Menomonee Valley brewery has decided to bring the summer-long musical undertaking back again in 2025, but with a few changes this time around.
