AbstractRadiological calcified cerebral embolism (CCE) characteristics have been reported in small case series. Our aim was to describe clinical and radiological CCE characteristics in a large number of CCE and to compare characteristics between different patient groups. Characteristics of 79 stroke patients with CCE were analyzed retrospectively.

Obesity is a major global health concern that strains available healthcare resources. The prevalence of obesity has doubled since 1980 in over 70 countries1 and is known to increase the risk of colorectal cancer2–4. As a result, the demand for curative surgical interventions in overweight and obese individuals is expected to grow.

In this study, we introduce NGG, a method that recovers some of the missing heritability. The signal we have uncovered appears to hold epistatic information, which is not fully captured by traditional variable selection methods, as the individual impact of SNPs is frequently not significant (Fig. 5B). This two-dimensional signal has been demonstrated to enhance genetic prediction through the application of machine learning techniques (Fig. 7).

Phylogenetic placement enables phylogenetic analysis of massive collections of newly sequenced DNA, when de novo tree inference is too unreliable or inefficient. Assuming that a high-quality reference tree is available, the idea is to seek the correct placement of the new sequences in that tree. Recently, alignment-free approaches to phylogenetic placement have emerged, both to circumvent the need to align the new sequences and to avoid the calculations that typically follow the alignment step.
