The NSW government has ruled out setting aside three former WestConnex tunnelling sites in inner-city Sydney for social housing. The prize parcels of government-owned land are at the centre of a political tug-of-war, with the Greens arguing they present a "golden opportunity" to provide much-needed housing close to the city for those on low incomes. Inner West Greens councillor Izabella Antoniou lives in Ashfield and passes two of the vacant sites every day on her way to the bus stop.

It isn’t the typical lesson taught in a primary school, but this game is different. Using real-life scams, the students are being shown how to spot online fraud. The game called Dodgy or Not? is updated in real time as scammers find new ways to trick or blackmail victims into parting with their money.

Part of a local park in Sydney's inner west will now be used by a cafe, following the approval from the Inner West council. The measure, which was first approved in July, would see part of Camperdown Memorial Rest Park leased to a nearby restaurant, allowing a cafe to be operated. Those plans were put on hold following a lack of community consultation. Yet, despite 70 per cent of responses dismissing the idea, the council has confirmed the cafe will go ahead.

It was just after sunset on a chilly August evening in the Blue Mountains when the first call came through. Five teenage boys had failed to return from a bush walk at Wentworth Falls. Emergency services were still scrambling to respond when they heard there was a second group in trouble. Four men had activated a personal locator beacon in bushland near Beauchamp Falls. By midnight, both groups had been safely walked out of the bush.
