IntroductionThe term ‘risk’ suggests that an action or event might happen. Importantly, it implies the event is associated with harm. In medicine, risk is related to factors (ie, risk or protective factors) that influence the likelihood of disease onset, or worsening of an existing disease, in individuals who have inherited or acquired those risk factors.
