Not long ago, neckband headphones were the way to go if you wanted wireless earbuds with active noise cancelling (ANC) or even just a good battery life. However, companies have been getting better and better at cramming these powerful features into ultra-compact, true wireless earbuds. While neckband headphones might seem outdated, they're still very popular. Many people prefer that you can put them around your neck and forget about them.

The Sony A9000 has two up-firing speakers to bounce sound off of your ceiling and back down towards you to create the impression of height. The frequency response here isn't the most even, as there's a peak in the low to mid-mid, cluttering and pushing dialogue and instruments forward a bit. That said, it doesn't seem quite as clear or real as discrete localization created by satellites.

Compared To Other Soundbars The LG S95TR is a top-of-the-line 9.1.5 setup from 2024. These headphones are compatible with the Sonos app, which is incidentally the same app used to control their soundbars and speakers. You can see a video of it in action here. While it offers features like a bass and treble slider for customizing sound, head tracking, channel balance, and TV Audio Swap (which you can read more about below), it's still somewhat barebones in design.

This speaker sounds fairly similar to its predecessor. It also has Trueplay, which is a room correction feature that uses the speaker's microphone to optimize its sound to your room's unique acoustics. You can only set this up via the Sonos app, which is compatible with iOS devices, so Android users can't take advantage of this feature. After using Trueplay, this speaker sounds well-balanced.
