Taryn’s invention of a food exchange box, similar to small free library hubs, was created to help solve hunger and food waste.

The Adams County Adult Correctional Complex (ACACC) is looking to hire people dedicated to public service and treatment for its Transition to Success program that will bring a new approach to corrections. Job opportunities for the prison’s new program include the correctional program specialist (CPS) and treatment manager, according to ACACC Warden Katy Hileman. “Excellent communication skills and a growth mindset will certainly help someone in these roles,” Hileman said.

A law firm was hired to represent an Adams County Children and Youth Services (ACCYS) employee “summoned to testify before” an investigating grand jury, a county official said. Adams County commissioners ratified and approved a professional services agreement Wednesday with Killian & Gephart, LLP of Harrisburg “for legal services related to the investigating grand jury,” with a rate not exceeding $300 an hour.

Community members will have a chance to sample student-crafted station fare that also supports their Adams County Technical Institute (ACTI) classmates heading to a state competition. ACTI is holding its SkillsUSA Fundraiser Dinner buffet featuring student-led interactive cooking stations on March 20. The dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at ACTI, 1126 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg. Tickets are $50 each and Monday, March 18 is the deadline to register, according to ACTI officials.

Open for 103 years spanning three generations, Ernie’s Texas Lunch in Gettysburg is being sold to a local restaurant owner who vows to honor its history. Ernie Kranias, owner of Ernie’s Texas Lunch, is selling the 58 Chambersburg St., iconic diner to Harry Tassou, co-owner of Olivia’s Mediterranean Restaurant, 3015 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg, for multiple reasons. “He has a reverence for the history of the restaurant,” Kranias said.
