SANTA CLARA - On a day when 51 players hit the field for rookie camp on Friday, the real news for the San Francisco 49ers was back inside the building as they continue to address the biggest miss in their recent draft: the offensive line. The Niners signed seventh-year offensive tackle Andre Dillard, a 2019 first-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles, and former Tennessee Titans tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere. This comes a week after they signed veteran tackle D.J. Humphries.

He didn't have a lot of followers back then, but Marques Sigle took to what was then known as Twitter on Jan. 7, 2023, to let everyone out there know. And ... maybe the former reserve cornerback for North Dakota State was telling himself something, with a nudge, as well. If you didn't know my name, you will soon!!! pic.twitter.com/EbVmsmYA9h- Marques Sigle (@MarMar1k30) January 7, 2023Sigle had entered the transfer portal a month and a half earlier, just as North Dakota State's regular season ended.

I liked the San Francisco 49ers draft class. That should come as no surprise. Everyone loved everyone's draft class this year. There were no screams of "bust" or "reach" ... what's happened to sports journalism? There was a ton of depth this year and few blue-chip players. So many players were grouped together after the first six or seven guys, with similar grades from teams, that drafting for need was not only excusable but necessary.

The Las Vegas Raiders just drafted 11 players, their biggest haul since 2007. Raiders fans may not remember that one, thanks to many hours of counseling and bar-sitting spent forgetting about JaMarcus Russell. They got one star player in running back Ashton Jeanty, and another starter in receiver Jack Bech. Bech catches everything and breaks tackles, and while he can't stretch the field, he has to be in the lineup at this point because the Raiders don't have much else besides Jakobi Meyers.

HENDERSON, Nev. - While coach Pete Carroll likes to take on his players in shooting contests at the basketball hoop at the Las Vegas Raiders' facility, new coach John Spytek showed he has some moves as well this draft weekend. After talking up the importance of taking advantage of the depth of certain positions, Spytek threw all that out the window when he took running back Ashton Jeanty at No. 6.
