Colored Gemstone Dealer Tim Roark Dies

Tim Roark, a prominent wholesaler of colored stones who was a board member of several industry groups, died on April 28. He was 82. Following his graduation from Yale University in 1965, Roark joined the U.S. Navy and saw combat during the Vietnam War. After leaving the service, he sold mutual funds and other securities for International Overseas Services in Africa.

In honor of the 2025 Met Gala and its theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” jewelry designer Lauren Harwell Godfrey partnered with Sotheby’s on a one-of-a-kind brooch featuring the Mediterranean Blue, a 10.03 ct. fancy vivid blue diamond valued around $20 million. The diamond will lead Sotheby’s High Jewelry auction in Geneva on May 13.
De Beers Shutting Down Lightbox, Its Lab-Grown Diamond Business

Seven years after its introduction sent shock waves through the industry, De Beers is closing the Lightbox lab-grown diamond business. As part of the closure process, De Beers will sell certain assets, including inventory. At press time, Lightbox’s site was still up, but CEO Al Cook tells JCK it will cease functioning within the coming weeks.

New York City–based jewelry brand Verragio has appointed Cathy Marsh regional sales manager for the Upper Midwest and western United States. In her new role, Marsh will extend the brand’s reach and presence in those areas. Marsh’s long industry résumé includes stints as director of business development for A. Link, regional director for John Hardy, regional account executive at Scott Kay, account executive at TAG Heuer, and director of sales for David Yurman.
