If there is a color that defines summer to me, it has to be orange: Picture bright sunsets, farmers markets filled with fresh fruit, and overflowing gardens where flowers blossom under the sun’s warmth. In jewelry, orange is somewhat rare, but it showed up and showed out during the JCK and Couture shows. Brands of all kinds from the venerable Oscar Heyman to relative newcomers such as ZAHN-Z showed how orange can symbolize vitality as well as luxury.

The collection is based on the marine equipment that keeps a ship afloat at sea, with nods to the rope on an anchor, links on a sail, the shape of a compass, and more.

In mid-June, Cole Pennington, a writer and watch collector in Geneva who works for Rolex’s sibling brand Tudor, posted a couple photos of the watchmaker’s new Black Bay 54 “Lagoon Blue” to his Instagram feed. “As a dyed in the wool tool watch guy, I gotta say I love this new BB54,” Pennington wrote in the accompanying caption. “It’s way more ‘vibey’ and less about the typical function-first approach of the brand, but that’s what I dig about it.
