NAVI MUMBAI: A city based social activist, Madhu Shankar, was surprised to see that the staff of a Vashi based automobile showroom was burning their old papers and discarded documents on the public footpath, causing smoke and pollution. While Shankar contacted the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to complain about this offence, the civic staffers from Vashi `C' ward did inspect the site, but penalized the showroom management a sum of Rs 250 only.

Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached land, building and fixed deposits (FDs) collectively worth Rs 43.52 crore in a money laundering case related to a bank fraud involving Ushdev International Limited, a metal trading company. The promoters of the company are alleged to have committed a bank fraud of Rs 1,438 crore. In 2022, the CBI booked the company promoters in the fraud case and had seat searched their premises at Nepean Sea Road.

Mumbai: CBI has filed an FIR against Rajesh Kumar, a superintendent of central GST at the Belapur Commissionerate, in a corruption case along with two other officials from his department. One of the officials had disclosed Kumar's involvement in corruption. The other two officials, Suhas Bhalerao (assistant commissioner) and Subham Das Mahapatra (inspector), were arrested by the CBI in March while accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from a transporter.
