Tuesday’s 1:30 pm press conference reflected a troubling and very familiar pattern. Last-minute scrambling in place of long-term planning and sustainable solutions. While we are relieved that a proposal has emerged to preserve key programs like music and the arts and protect several agreed-upon union positions, this crisis could have and should have been avoided. Year after year, we find ourselves at the edge of the same cliff, responding reactively rather than leading proactively.
