The UT Southern women’s soccer team scored a go-ahead goal with just under 33 minutes remaining and tacked on an insurance tally late to defeat Aquinas (Mich.) in the Round of 16 of the NAIA national tournament Tuesday night at the Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex in Pensacola, Fla. The win advanced the Firehawks (19-2-1) to the quarterfinals of the tournament for a sixth-straight season.

A trio of Giles County senior soccer standouts liked playing alongside each other so much they decided to continue their collegiate careers together. Chase Cardin, Patrick Holt and Esteban Rangel all inked last week with UT Southern to take their careers on the pitch to the next level.

The UT Southern athletic department recently announced that its entire department boasted a 3.0-plus grade-point average for a third-straight year. The Firehawks accumulated a department-wide average of 3.21 during the 2023-24 academic year, highlighted by 15-of-19 programs with at least a 3.0 cumulative average. Twelve programs improved their scores from last year. Women’s golf produced the highest GPA in the department with a 3.61 team GPA.

Lyne Departs to "Pursue a New Coaching Opportunity"By Wade Neely, Sports EditorUT Southern announced the departure of men’s basketball head coach Dugan Lyne Thursday morning. Lyne is departing after six seasons as Firehawks head coach to “pursue a new coaching opportunity,” the release states. Lyne spent a total of 12 years at UT Southern, the last six coming as head coach. Prior to his head coaching tenure, Lyne served as top assistant under longtime friend and mentor Scott Combs.

After a highly successful event last summer, All-Star baseball will once again return to historic Exchange Park this June as part of the Giles County Little League All-Star Classic. The event, nearly identical to last summer’s showcase, is a week-long celebration of youth baseball in Giles County and will pit two teams of 10 players against each other in a dramatic, best-of-seven series. Additionally, all of the games will be streamed on Pulaski Citizen Live.

By Christina MooreStation Camp may not have won it all in its first ever baseball state tournament appearance. But this year’s run will not be forgotten anytime soon. With a depleted pitching staff, the Bison (29-12) gutted their way to Friday’s Class 3A title game, falling 7-4 to high-powered Tullahoma at MTSU’s Reese Smith Jr. Field.
