ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Elmira Pioneers are heating up, as the summer college baseball season rolls on. The Pioneers secured a critical road victory over Newark, 13-9 on Friday. The Pilots opened the scoring in the 4th frame, before Elmira responded with 1 of 2 huge innings. In the 6th, Elmira grad Mike Palmer and Brandon Doubek each delivered RBI-singles, before crossing the plate on wild pitches. Brendan Hammer also collected an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

WAVERLY, N.Y. (WETM) – Horseheads baseball has made history. For the first time in program history, the Blue Raiders completed a four-peat (AA 2022, 2024-25, A 2023) of Section IV Championships. Horseheads outlasted Vestal 4-2, in Game 3 of the Class AA Championship series on Monday in Waverly. The Blue Raiders accomplished the impressive feat, matching Class D’s Deposit-Hancock, who also lifted their 4th-straight plaque this season.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WETM) – Corning and Horseheads softball will compete for a state title. (Photo Courtesy: Section IV Athletics) The Hawks and Blue Raiders will represent the STAC West in the NYSPHSAA tournament, as they each earned Section IV Championships on Sunday. After a day of rain moved trophy day from Saturday to Sunday at Greenlight Grand Slam Park, the pair of local rivals picked up major wins in their respective classes.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Section IV playoffs continue to march on in the region. Playoff matchups in baseball, lacrosse and girls flag football hit their respective fields Thursday night. In baseball, the Elmira Express surged past Corning in game one of the Section IV Class AAA Championship Series, 9-5, at Corning Community College. Logan Palmer hit a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning giving the Express a 4-2 edge and they kept the lead the rest of the way.
