ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Two area teams put their seasons on the line Thursday in their respective New Yok State Tournaments. In softball, defending New York State Champions Corning cruised a to 6-0 win over Middletown at Monroe-Woodbury High School in the Class AAA Regional Finals. Matti Johnston threw a no-hitter for Corning (17-3) and had seven strikeouts with three walks. Johnston also recorded a triple at the plate while Keana Mann went 3-for-4 with an RBI pacing the Hawks.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WETM) – For the first time in nearly 20 years Horseheads softball is heading to the New York State Final Four. Horseheads topped Goshen 4-1 Wednesday in Binghamton at Greenlight Grand Slam Park. With the win, Horseheads will make its first New York State Class AA Final Four appearance since 2008. The Blue Raiders will play the winner of Clarkston South or East Islip on Friday, June 13th at 4 PM also at Greenlight Grand Slam Park.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – One of the most storied years in Twin Tiers history will be honored at Historic Dunn Field later this month. Elmira Southside’s Class of 1972 will be holding a special reunion on Saturday, June 21 at the Elmira Pioneers home game at 6:30 PM. The night will honor the Green Hornets’ championships in 1972 in football, basketball and baseball. It will also be free mini bat night for all fans courtesy of Blaze Brockway Construction.
