Laser Profiles, in business for more than 25 years, is home to an array of technology including a fully automated state-of-the-art Trumpf fibre laser delivering high quality, high-speed cutting.

Blackburn College has been chosen to train the machining apprentices of one of Darwen's largest employers. Darwen-based WEC Group, one of the largest engineering and fabrication companies in the UK, has specialised in fabrication, laser and waterjet cutting, and CNC turning and milling for over 40 years.  It employs over 900 staff working across aerospace, defence, oil and gas, nuclear, mining and automotive industries.

WEC Group, the winner of the 2023 Red Rose Awards Commitment to Skills Award and the employer of many recent World Skills UK competitors, has earned the right to deliver its own apprenticeships. The Darwen-based company has successfully joined the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (RoATP) as an Employer Provider. RoATP is a government record of organisations eligible to receive funding to train apprentices.
