1. IntroductionWith the continued exploration and development of oil wells, the issue of elevated water content in many reservoirs has become increasingly prevalent [1]. This rise in water content can largely be attributed to several factors, including the prolonged injection of water over extended periods, the presence of reservoirs with large pore throats, and the non-homogeneous nature of many reservoir formations [2].

AbstractAt sufficiently high resolution, x-ray crystallography and cryogenic electron microscopy are capable of resolving small spherical map features corresponding to either water or ions. Correct classification of these sites provides crucial insight for understanding structure and function as well as guiding downstream design tasks, including structure-based drug discovery and de novo biomolecule design.
