This Thanksgiving, Lincoln High School students, with the assistance of the Youth Charity League, collected a record-breaking 1,007 pumpkin pies to deliver to 16 nonprofits in Portland. Culinary Arts teacher Melanie Hammericksen has continued a tradition started by her mentor, Chef Dan Brophy, 16 years ago at the Oregon Culinary Institute. After Chef Brophy was killed in 2018, Hammericksen ensured his legacy lived on.

The Sunshine Division, in partnership with the Portland Police Bureau, is known for over 100 years of feeding and clothing Portlanders, but this year they did something new for Thanksgiving. "Today I'm excited to say that we're part of the first-ever Thanksgiving food delivery," said Corlinda Wooden, the Sunshine Division Board Chair and volunteer. More than 300 volunteer drivers showed up to Portland International Raceway on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

9-year-old Hadley Lowery started cheerleading this fall for Oregon City Youth Cheer and Dance. She can do the kicks, jumps and dance moves all with her prosthetic leg, defying the odds. "We get to twirl a lot around and do cool dance moves. I love being out here saying the cheers, dancing, and having fun," says Hadley. It was just a year and a half ago that Hadley's classmates at Beaver Creek Elementary School were the ones cheering her on while she battled bone cancer.

In 1999, Kevin Byrne, a West Point graduate, was 27 years old in the army in Korea serving as a Captain and an Air Cavalry Troop Commander. "It was something that gave me the opportunity to work with some of the absolute best soldiers in the military. It was something I'm eternally grateful for," Kevin tells us.
