A government minister has hit back following criticism of the UK by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It follows the deaths of two Israeli embassy staff, who were repeatedly shot near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington DC on Wednesday night. Sarah Milgrim and her boyfriend, Yaron Lischinsky, were both allegedly killed by Elias Rodriguez, a pro-Palestine activist.

The wife of a former Tory councillor has said she "never" meant to incite violence when she called for hotels to be burned down. Lucy Connolly appeared from HMP Drake Hall in Eccleshall in Staffordshire, where she is currently serving a 31-month sentence for an online rant in which she called asylum seekers "b******s". She is challenging the sentence, which she was given last October, at the Court of Appeal after admitting making the post on X.

Sir Keir Starmer has said a series of arson attacks on his family home and a related property are "an attack on democracy". The prime minister was speaking publicly about the fires for the first time. A 21-year-old remains in custody on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, following three fires at properties relating to the prime minister over the past week. Emergency services were called to fires at the doors of two homes in north London within 24 hours of each other.

Three men have been jailed for a combined total of 99 years for plotting to murder a member of a gang that carried out Britain's biggest ever cash robbery. Paul Allen, 46, was shot twice as he stood in his kitchen in Woodford, east London, on 11 July 2019. Mr Allen was a member of the Securitas heist gang that stole £54m from a cash depot in Tonbridge, Kent, in 2006.

Prisons across England and Wales are at their highest capacity for months, with fewer cells available than at any time this year. There are fewer than 1,000 spare prison cells across England and Wales, a record low for this year. Only 961 spaces are now available, meaning prisons are now almost 98.9% full, according to new government figures.
