In a landmark speech setting out her party's position on immigration, the Tory leader accused the body, which dates back to the 1950s, of becoming a "sword used to attack democratic decisions and common sense".

A government minister has declined to say if the UK was involved in a Ukrainian drone strike after the Russian ambassador partially blamed Britain for the attack. More than a hundred drones were used to attack sites inside Russia over the weekend, leading to more than 40 warplanes being destroyed. Speaking to The World With Yalda Hakim on Sky News following the attack, Russia's UK ambassador warned it could risk escalating the conflict to "World War III".

It follows the deaths of two Israeli embassy staff, who were repeatedly shot near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington DC on Wednesday night. The wife of a former Tory councillor has said she "never" meant to incite violence when she called for hotels to be burned down. Lucy Connolly appeared from HMP Drake Hall in Eccleshall in Staffordshire, where she is currently serving a 31-month sentence for an online rant in which she called asylum seekers "b******s". She is challenging the sentence, which she was given last October, at the Court of Appeal after admitting making the post on X.

Sir Keir Starmer has said a series of arson attacks on his family home and a related property are "an attack on democracy". The prime minister was speaking publicly about the fires for the first time. A 21-year-old remains in custody on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, following three fires at properties relating to the prime minister over the past week. Emergency services were called to fires at the doors of two homes in north London within 24 hours of each other.
