Barbeary scored once in either half as the hosts careered to a convincing result. Yet the probability of Ireland beating England’s rampant Red Roses seemed wholly impossible given their Six Nations dominance. So it proved under milky Irish clouds, even if the scoreline was not an apt reflection of the hosts’ defensive doggedness. Ireland’s improvement on the women’s Test scene has been vast, but this was still an eye-watering reminder of how England remain streets – motorways – ahead.

    Leinster have reached the semi-finals of the Champions Cup after thrashing Glasgow Warriors in an utterly dominant performance at the Aviva Stadium. Max Deegan opened and finished the scoring for the hosts with tries also coming from Tommy O’Brien, James Lowe, Hugo Keenan, Garry Ringrose and Dan Sheehan. Leinster fly-half Sam Prendergast played a starring role at fly-half with British & Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell in attendance.

    Oh no Onana. If you are going to talk the talk you really must walk the walk. Manchester United are still in the conversation in the Europa League – but no thanks to their goalkeeper. Andre Onana was certainly at fault for one of Lyon’s goals and probably for both as United conceded deep into added time just when it looked like they had turned around the first leg of this quarter-final with a precious victory.
