Doom: The Dark Ages is a masterfully crafted PC release that manages to run well on low-end hardware, while avoiding the typical issues we associate with game engines possessing high-end rendering features. The launch version manages to achieve a high level of fidelity even without the path tracing feature that's set to arrive later, and perhaps unsurprisingly the game can be relatively heavy when simply pushed to its maximum settings on low to mid-range hardware.

Recent indie darling Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is more polished on PC than you might expect from the size of its core development team, but it still has some presentation issues that conflict with its narrative focus and some PC-specific problems that make the PC release arguably the least polished version of the game. Clair Obscur is built on Unreal Engine 5, giving access to modern graphical features but also opening the door to some familiar issues.

Grand Theft Auto 6 may not be coming out until May 2026, but Rockstar salved our disappointment with the release of Trailer 2, an action-packed mixture of cutscenes and gameplay. Despite being less than three minutes long, the trailer is packed with a huge amount of clues to the game's current technical make-up, including its resolution and frame-rate figures, as well as a look at some of the graphical techniques that will define its overall look.

Tempest Rising is a polished, performant and brilliant real-time strategy (RTS) game powered by Unreal Engine 5. That's a sentence I never really expected to say just a few years ago, but a whole host of contributing elements here make this game fun to play and, thankfully, technically sound. This is not typical multi-platform game that I'd review for DF, but a PC exclusive in a genre that defined the platform's earliest days.
