For the estimated 86,000 people living here who fell ill with TB in 2019, TB treatment coverage reached 65 percent, and the treatment success rate was 72 percent— both far below the 85 percent national target for 2019.

    District veterinary officers (DVOs)  have clashed with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) over the origin of the viral strain of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) affecting livestock in the country. Although  there is a  widely held belief that FMD , which is recurrent in Uganda, is from neigbouring Tanzania, veterinary doctors in the cattle corridor, which has suffered  rampant outbreaks over the years, said  the current strain of FMD emanates  from game parks  that host wild animals with hooves.

Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG) Anne Twino Muhairwe has ordered the arrest of two officials from the districts of Rakai and Kyotera over allegedly involving in a payroll fraud which caused a financial loss totaling to Shs638million. The implicated officials include Rakai District principal human resource officer Rose Yawe and her Kyotera District counterpart Aaron Kayinga.
