BAR HARBOR — The possibility of American Cruise Line tendering passengers at the Bar Harbor Town Pier moved one step closer to reality after the harbor committee signed off on the idea at its regular meeting on Monday. Members of the committee voted 6-1, with one abstention, to recommend that the Town Council pursue the plan detailed by Harbormaster Chris Wharff.

PORTLAND — Resident Charles Sidman will not be allowed to participate in Golden Anchor's lawsuit against the town of Bar Harbor regarding the cruise ship disembarkation regulations set forth in Chapter 52. "The gist of Sidman’s argument for reconsideration is that his interest in and right to intervene in this action is the same regardless of whether considering the Cruise Ship Ordinance or the Disembarkation Ordinance," Duddy wrote in his decision released on Jan. 8.

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island YMCA is welcoming back members to the facility’s newly refinished gymnasium floor, completed on Monday. This project closed the gym for two weeks while the original maple floor was sanded, new lines were marked and painted, hardwood sealed and the protective layer cured. The new taped lines will be black, two different blues and a white, to help better differentiate between all of these different activities.

BAR HARBOR — There will be no new transient lodging projects for at least another 60 days after the Town Council voted 6-1 to reenact an emergency moratorium ordinance prohibiting such developments until at least Mar. 7. The initial moratorium, enacted on Nov. 19 of last year, had several days left before it was set to run out. But the ordinance’s expiration date of Jan. 19 falls two days before the Council’s monthly meeting on Jan. 21, prompting members to act at this special Jan. 7 meeting.

BAR HARBOR — Five practicing attorneys walked into the Town Council chambers on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Eben Salvatore was present as a representative of the appellant, and he was represented by both Andrew Hamilton and Timothy Woodcock of Eaton Peabody. Chamberlain was represented by town attorney Stephen Wagner of Rudman Winchell. Charles Sidman, whose citizen’s petition created the cruise ship regulations contained in Chapter 125-77H, was also on hand with his attorney, Robert Papazian.
