MOUNT DESERT — Elected officials from municipalities that make up the League of Towns gathered at The Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor last week to continue developing a regional action plan for dealing with issues that face Mount Desert Island and the surrounding area. The League is a collaboration of local municipal governments and includes Ellsworth, Lamoine, Trenton, Tremont, Southwest Harbor, Mount Desert, Bar Harbor, Swan’s Island and the Cranberry Isles.

MOUNT DESERT — The newly reimagined Asticou Hotel contiues to move closer to opening for the season. The Selectboard voted to approve a special amusement permit for hotel, with the condition that the permit may only be used during the business’s posted hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., after members of the public shared they would like some guidelines imposed to help with potential noise from the business.

MOUNT DESERT — Voters will have final approval of the proposed LD 1438 — An Act to Require the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to Allow Hunting on Mount Desert Island, explained Town Manager Durlin Lunt to the Selectboard’s on Tuesday. Lunt gave an update to the board on the status of the proposed bill, which was presented by House Minority Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham (R-Winter Harbor) to the Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife on April 3.

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The building on the Herrick Road that had been a primary care clinic before its closure by Northern Light Health last August has been purchased by Atlantic Holdings, LLC, according to deed records. A spokesperson from Atlantic Hospitality, a hotel investment, management and design company that has acquired The Claremont, Salt Cottages and The Asticou in recent years, said the building is being used for employee needs.

AUGUSTA — Could deer hunting on Mount Desert Island, which has been banned since 1905, be legalized? A bill seeking to do so was presented by Maine House Minority Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham (R-Winter Harbor) on April 3 to the Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Faulkingham said that he decided to present the bill because several people from MDI contacted him asking him to do so. “They wanted to be able to hunt on their own land,” Faulkingham said.

TRENTON — The Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport was the launch site for a 375-ton, 56-foot-tall and 56-foot-wide, semi-submersible concrete floating hull on March 30. That hull, still currently moored in Trenton, will eventually be towed to an industrial port at Mack Point in Searsport, where tower, turbine and blade assembly will result in a quarter-scale floating ocean energy platform prototype, according to a statement from the University of Maine.
