I-84 is closed between Pendleton and Ontario, Oregon, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced Wednesday afternoon. The agency briefly opened the stretch of highway but re-closed it because of "unpredictable fire activity in the area." There is no estimate of when the interstate may reopen, ODOT added.

But more closures may be coming, especially with high winds and flash floods in the forecast. An ODOT official told KTVB the Durkee fire was burning close to the interstate on Tuesday, but fire crews pushed it far enough to reopen it on Tuesday night.
