1. Introduction The serendipitous discovery of cisplatin goes back to the 1960s. The physicist Barnett Rosenberg, in an investigation of the possible effects of an electric field on cell division, found that E. coli stopped dividing in an electrolyte with platinum electrodes, and subsequent studies revealed that this phenomenon was due to the production of a platinum compound during electrolysis, and proved that the compound also had anti-cancer activity, named it cisplatin (Guo, 2020).
