Fire crews in San Carlos Park are working to put out a fire at a home along Devore Lane. Crews responded to the fire around 3 a.m. Saturday and spent much of the morning working to contain the blaze. Four adults were inside the home when it caught fire and were able to get out safely. San Carlos Park fire officials tell Gulf Coast News that the fire started in the garage but spread to the attic. There is no word on what caused it. The home is deemed a total loss.

Alexandra Theodore has battled sickle cell disease all of her life. It's a rare blood disorder that impacts the shape of her red blood cells. "At the beginning of my life, it mainly controlled my life. It was all I knew," said 40-year-old Theodore. Most patients rely on treatments, with the cure for the disease grossly expensive. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 100,000 people in the United States have the disease, and more than 90% are African American.

New owners are set to take over a historic Fort Myers Beach restaurant that recently closed its doors. HM Restaurant Group has acquired Bonita Bill's, soon to be Bonita Fish Co. The restaurant group also owns and operates Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille and Dixie Fish Company.Bonita Bill's closed its doors for good Sunday after announcing its closure back in December. The restaurant has been a staple of Fort Myers Beach since the 1920s.
