Every 11 years, Creston High School becomes a buzzing center for art students in the Hawkeye 10. Students and teachers from each of the 11 schools bring artwork and learn styles and techniques from one another. The Hawkeye 10 Art Show is held every year, rotating the school it is held at. 2025 is the year of the Panther, and art teacher Bailey Fry-Schnormeier is excited to get the show on the road. The annual Drake Relays have already begun, but for high school fans, the real action begins Thursday. Area athletes from Creston, Lenox and Mount Ayr punched their ticket to the exclusive event — one that forgoes classes and simply focuses on the best athletes in the state. Creston senior Brayden Schoon and sophomore Tom Mikkelsen each qualified in a throwing event. This is the first time in a decade the Panthers will have boys events competing.

It was not track-friendly weather Monday as the Creston hosted the Panther Invitational. While the girls came away with a resounding meet win, the boys narrowly fell to Mount Ayr. The Raiders scored 58 to the Panthers’ 52. BoysThe Panther boys still managed to put together a good performance, winning eight gold medals. Senior Brayden Schoon and sophomore Tom Mikkelsen continued their throwing dominance, taking silver and gold in both events.

With less than three months before the annual summer event, Creston Parks and Recreation have officially chosen acts for Party in the Park 2025. Kansas City-based Carl Worden Band will start out the night, followed by Elton John tribute group Elton Dan and the Rocket Band. Party in the Park won’t be the first time Carl Worden plays in Creston this summer. He’s also set to play with his wife Vicki at Fridays After Five June 13.
