The United Arab Emirates named Badr Jafar as its new special envoy for business and philanthropy. The appointment comes after a raft of announcements by the country on its philanthropic endeavours, including the recent launch of the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity, named after the UAE’s former ruler. Badr Jafar is known as being a vocal advocate for philanthropy in traditionally large-scale forums.

Canadian family foundations have put forward $76 million in climate funding, adding to the growing number of climate philanthropists in the North American nation. Of the total, Toronto-based Brian and Joannah Lawson Family Foundation granted $70 million, $60 million of which will be used to launch a brand-new Climate Institute at the University of Toronto bearing the family name.

Japan’s assets in impact investment reached JPY 17.3T (USD $121b) last year, up 150 percent from the previous year, according to a survey released by GSG Impact Japan at the end of March. The assets grew by 5,760.2 trillion yen, from the 11,541.4 trillion yen ascertained by the FY2023 survey. The figure represents assets held by Japanese companies used in Japan, as well as overseas.
