    THORNTON – The Niwot gymnastics team showed up to the Class 4A state championships on Saturday wearing shirts that read “We Better” on them. That statement is a simplified version of a team-centric, forward-thinking motto that developed over the course of the 2024 fall season. That season ended on Saturday at Thornton High School, and the ending was exactly the one the Cougars had worked towards – their first team championship since 2018.

    PUEBLO – The rematch was a different story – which wasn’t a good thing for the Lyons baseball team. A week after upsetting No. 1 ranked Limon 5-1 in the second round of the Class 2A state tournament, the Lions couldn’t rinse and repeat with a duplicate performance. Instead, Limon jumped out on top with a four-run first inning and the Lions could never recover, dropping an 8-3 decision Friday at Hobbs Field at the Runyon Field Sports Complex in the double-elimination tournament.
