UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad wants to create a legacy that compares to 170 GOAT Georges St. Pierre, and his quest began against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 on Saturday night. Muhammad (24-3) attempted his first title defense in the UFC against Maddalena. Originally set to face Shavkat Rakhmonov last December the fight fell through due to a bone infection in Muhammad’s foot. Rakhmonov went on to defeat Ian Machado Garry that night.

Not often the UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko is a underdog during a title defense, but then again Manon Fiorot is no run-of-the-mill challenger who got her shot at gold at UFC 315 on Saturday night. Shevchenko (24-4-1) had a legendary 7 consecutive title defense streak snapped when she lost the belt to Alexa Grasso at UFC 285 in March 2023. Two bouts later she got it back from Grasso at UFC 306, and looked to start another defense streak at UFC 315.

The legendary Jose Aldo continued his hall-of-fame career after returning to active competition against Aiemann Zahabi at UFC 315 on Saturday night. Aldo (32-9) doesn’t have much lacking from his legendary resume. The former longtime UFC featherweight champion has beaten the who’s who at 145 pounds. Upon returning to the UFC he dropped down to bantamweight, but a rough weight cut at UFC 315 forced this bout up to 145. Zahabi (12-2) jumped on this opportunity very quickly.

Pioneering light heavyweight champ and later middleweight title challenger Vitor Belfort will join the UFC Hall of Fame this summer. Belfort will join the Pioneer Wing, the promotion announced during Saturday’s UFC 315 broadcast. Belfort, who also won the UFC 12 heavyweight tournament, later captured the promotion’s light heavyweight title in in 2004, defeating fellow Hall of Fame member Randy Couture to do so.

Grasso (16-4-1) was coming off her first loss since 2019. Going 1-1-1 in three bouts with new champion Valentina Shevchenko the Mexican star gets a fresh matchup in Silva. Grasso holds wins over Shevchenko, Viviane Araujo, Joanne Wood, Maycee Barber and Karolina Kowalkiewicz to name a few.
