    A local retirement home has just launched a program geared to help stroke and cardiac victims recover before being sent home. The Maples opened its Holistic Recovery Care program June 1, designed to let seniors recover at their own pace from heart attack and stroke. Cathy Stacey Jones, national sales and marketing director for My Life Retirement, which runs The Maples, said there is no intent to push people through the program and out the door. Individuals can proceed at their own pace.

It’s taking place at the corner of King and Third streets in downtown Chatham. Organizer Kai Wood said the goal is to “show solidarity” with residents in the United States who are opposed to U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies, notably the immigration policy.

Five years later, the Queen Street business is thriving. The store helps fund the Chatham Christian School and also supports a number of local charities. To date, the initiative has donated $190,000 back to the community. A different charity is chosen each month and a portion of that month’s sales are donated.
