Scania has delivered the first of 165 new trucks to Bidcorp UK. The foodservice group has ordered a mix of 18-tonne P250 4x2 NA, 26-tonne P280 6x2 NA and tractor units. Due to be in operation for at least 10 years, the trucks replace some units that have been part of the fleet for more than 13 years. The new vehicles are expected to cover between 30,000 to 50,000 miles annually moving products from Bidcorp depots to customer delivery destinations.

A sole trader with a history of non-compliance and false declarations has had an appeal against the decision by a traffic commissioner to refuse the surrender of his licence dismissed. Mark Jones was disqualified last year after traffic commissioner Sarah Bell found he had been operating vehicles without paying vehicle excise duty and had ignored inquiries from the police and the DVSA (CM 9 May 2024).

A traffic commissioner’s decision to revoke the licence of a Slough-based operator was “excessive” and did not consider the company’s circumstances, an appeal tribunal found. The deputy traffic commissioner (DTC) for the South East region revoked the licence belonging to Hard Concrete at a public inquiry in June 2024 after hearing about significant compliance issues. The DTC had previously downgraded the operator’s two licences to restricted status and issued formal warnings regarding compliance.

A man found guilty of deliberately crashing a delivery van he had stolen, causing the death of the delivery driver who was clinging to the speeding vehicle, has been jailed for 30 years. Mark Ross, 32, was found guilty by a majority verdict at Leeds Crown Court for the murder of 42-year-old Claudio-Carol Kondor, who was fatally injured in a collision in Farnley last year.

After analysing more than 30,000 Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency operator license records, Breakwell’s Transport has found the average number of vehicles and trailers hauliers in the UK operate. The data showed hauliers run on average 9.56 vehicles and 5.11 trailers. At the upper end of the scale, larger hauliers typically have 263 vehicles and 148 trailers. Smaller firms brought the average down with six vehicles and three trailers.
