A Wisconsin-based global printing and marketing services firm will close its Montcalm County printing facility as part of a companywide cost-cutting effort. The Sussex, Wis.-based Quad (NYSE: QUAD), formerly known as Quad/Graphics, will reportedly close the Greenville printing facility on May 16, resulting in 72 layoffs. Citing a company statement, the Greenville Daily News reported that work at the Greenville plant will shift to facilities in Wisconsin and Virginia.

West Michigan companies once again top our list of the state’s largest family-owned businesses, which is ranked by 2024 revenue. Wyoming-based Gordon Food Service takes the No. 1 spot with $23 billion in statewide revenue, a 9.5% increase over 2023. Walker-based Meijer followed closely with $21.5 billion according to revenue from Forbes, up 2.4%. Ada-based Amway reported a 3.9% revenue decline to $7.4 billion, rounding out the top three.

A federal judge has denied six cannabis operators’ request to halt the city of Grand Rapids’ social equity program, resulting in one operator paying nearly $345,000 to renew its city license. Fluresh LLC, a licensed cannabis grower, processor and retailer, paid the city a $344,785 fee on Wednesday shortly after a federal judge denied Fluresh’s and five other companies’ request for a preliminary injunction to halt the program. The ruling is part of a lawsuit the companies filed on Feb.

That’s the findings of the Lown Institute, a Boston, Mass.-based health care think tank that annually calculates the difference between the economic value of nonprofit hospitals’ tax exemptions compared to what they provide in community benefits and uncompensated charity care.
