Michigan-based family-owned retailer Mega-Bev is moving to the lakeshore with plans to open its first location in Holland later this year in a former Rite Aid store. Owner Scott Niecko confirmed the retailer has plans to acquire and renovate an 11,200-square-foot building at 973 Washington Ave. in Holland, which the company is currently under contract to purchase. “There’s nobody like us in the Holland area so I think we’ll be well-received,” Niecko said.

Grand Haven-based brewery Odd Side Ales is opening a second location in nearby Fruitport that will operate as a coffee shop in the morning and early afternoon and as a taproom in the evening. This week, Odd Side started renovations on a former Fifth Third Bank branch office at 50 Park St. in Fruitport in neighboring Muskegon County, which brewery owner Chris Michner plans to open this fall.

Grocery retailer and food distribution company SpartanNash Co. has confirmed plans to expand its Hispanic grocery concept into Michigan as part of a broader retail growth strategy across the Midwest this year and into early 2026. Tony Sarsam, CEO of Byron Center-based SpartanNash Co., told brokerage analysts in a May 29 conference call to discuss first quarter earnings that the company’s expansion plans for its Hispanic grocery banner, Supermercado Nuestra Familia, include the Michigan market.

Eastown hot dog joint Yesterdog has changed hands, allowing founder Bill Lewis to step back from the business he built over the last nearly five decades. The iconic hotdog restaurant, located at 1505 Wealthy St. SE in Grand Rapids’ Eastown neighborhood, sold May 30 to first-time restaurant owner Pat Connor, who plans to carry on Yesterdog’s vintage, cash-only charm.
