Stock prices for metro Detroit's publicly traded companies fell Thursday, erasing billions in paper value a day after President Donald Trump imposed sweeping tariffs on the United States’ global trading partners. All but three local public companies saw stock declines. The only gainers were DTE Energy Co. and CMS Energy Co., utilities that are a traditional "flight to safety" stock pick. The other was manufactured-home park operator Sun Communities Inc.

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based UFP Industries Inc. will spend $77 million to establish a new factory making composite decking products in western New York. The company will make the Deckorators branded "Surestone" product in Lackawanna, N.Y., a suburb of Buffalo, where it plans a manufacturing and warehouse complex covering more than 240,000 square feet, according to a statement. The 30-acre site includes a 168,000-square-foot existing facility that will be expanded as part of the project.
