Dan Johnson will be cycling from Vancouver, B.C. back to his home in Port Dover over the summer to honour his son Luke who died of cancer at the age of eight, and to raise money for a soon-to-be-built community hospice in Norfolk-Haldimand. The journey was born out of the Johnson family’s experience of having to use an out-of-town hospice for Luke when he was in his final days.

    Greenwich, Conn. based Atlas Holdings has announced it will acquire all of EVRAZ’s North American operations, which includes the steel plant in Regina. In a news release on Friday, the company says it anticipates the deal to close in the second half of 2025. EVRAZ announced in 2022 that it was looking for suitable buyers of its North American operations. Along with Regina, EVRAZ has North American facilities in Colorado, Oregon, and Alberta.

Thousands of drivers hit the road Friday afternoon for the unofficial kickoff to the summer season, leading to long delays and heavy congestion along Highway 400 through Barrie as city-dwellers make their way toward cottage country. From late Friday morning into the afternoon, traffic has been bumper-to-bumper in stretches, especially around key interchanges. But the slow crawl north is nothing new for many.
