We live near a popular café, and the perk is that every morning I get to stroll by the chicest people. Above is Ameerah, whom I met today. She’s a distance runner, and how cute is her denim-on-denim? Rebecca actually stopped me in the street, since she’s a long-time Cup of Jo reader, but then I had to snap a photo. Loved her loafers with the bow — she told me they’re G.H. Bass Lillian Bow Weejuns (mouthful!), and you can find pairs on eBay.

“I live for a good house salad,” writes Pittsburgh-based Jessica Merchant in her new cookbook Easy Everyday, which I’ve been loving this month. “For some reason, a few years ago I became obsessed with the idea of having a signature house salad. An incredible, flavorful green salad…that tastes wonderful with almost every recipe.”Isn’t that a fun idea? Her own house salad, she explains, has greens, carrots, tomatoes, onions and croutons, plus two standouts: asiago cheese and sunflower seeds.

My mom just came to visit and the (weirdest) best part was……I got violently ill (will spare you the gory details!) on Sunday evening and she brought me water and medicine and a very, very cold washcloth for my forehead and I called her “Mommy” and remembered how good it feels to be cared for like a child. We also saw this perfect vanity plate.
