The 2025 World Press Photo of the Year has been revealed. Palestinian photojournalist Samar Abu Elouf took this year’s top prize for his striking portrait Mahmoud Ajjour, Aged Nine. The image shows young Mahmoud, a Gazan boy who lost both arms during an Israeli attack in March 2024. It’s a deeply moving image that captures the enduring cost of war on the youngest and most vulnerable. Samar Abu Elouf created his image for The New York Times.

Can you tell AI-generated images from real ones? A recent study by Joe Youngblood suggests that people still aren’t easily fooled. While artificial intelligence continues to advance in image creation, most Americans can still tell the difference between real and AI-generated pictures. Well, at least for now. The research involved 4,016 U.S. consumers between the ages of 18 and 65. Participants were shown pairs of images and asked to identify which one was created using generative AI.

Panasonic has become the latest member of the Content Authenticity Initiative. After Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, and Leica, Panasonic becomes the fifth camera company to join the initiative. “By joining the CAI, we are committed to contributing to the ecosystem, ensuring the authenticity of digital content, and fostering an environment of trust and transparency online,” Toshiyuki Tsumura, Business Division Executive of the Imaging Solution Business Division at Panasonic, said in a statement.
