    Residents are being invited to share their priorities for local government reorganisation, amid debate over how many councils should cover Norfolk. Currently, services are split between the county council and seven borough, city and district councils. The Government wants to replace all eight with a reduced number of ‘unitary councils’, which would deliver all services, and has asked the existing authorities to make proposals for what future services could look like.

    Pupils came together to test their language skills at the third annual West Norfolk Academies Trust spelling bee. Children from each of the trust’s six primary schools gathered for the final of the event, including host Gaywood Primary. The other participating schools were Clenchwarton, Walpole Cross Keys, West Lynn, Snettisham, and Heacham Junior.

    The final “key part” of the design team for a new Lynn hospital has been appointed. Atkins Realis has been named the technical advisory partner for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital programme, and will be supported by Arup. Bosses say the company will bring “expertise to the design team in a range of areas, providing expert guidance on integrating medical technologies”.

    A former mayor has been handed a new role on West Norfolk Council’s cabinet. Cllr Paul Bland has become the portfolio holder for car parks and open spaces. Cllr Alistair Beales, council leader, said: “The car parks and open spaces portfolio includes some of our most high-profile areas of work, so I am delighted to welcome Paul into the cabinet to take these on.

    Aldi bosses are “actively looking” at building a new supermarket in Lynn. Last month, the supermarket giant reached out to the public to help identify the best locations for new stores across Norfolk. It has now analysed thousands of suggestions to help shape its search for the years ahead. “The priority area in Norfolk where the supermarket is actively looking is Lynn,” a spokesperson said.
