Forbes is a town situated in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. It can be found along the Newell Highway, positioned between Parkes and West Wyalong. According to the 2016 census, the population of Forbes stood at 8,432 residents. The town is likely named after Sir Francis Forbes, who was the first Chief Justice of New South Wales. Nestled by the banks of the Lachlan River, Forbes is elevated at 245 metres (804 ft) above sea level and is approximately 380 kilometres (240 mi) to the west of Sydney. The area is known for its agricultural activities, particularly the cultivation of wheat and other similar crops. Nearby towns and localities include Calarie, Parkes, Bedgerebong, Bundabarrah, Corradgery, Daroobalgie, Eugowra, Ooma North, and Paytens Bridge. It's important to note that Forbes experiences a pattern of flooding, which typically occurs significantly every seven years, with notable flooding events recorded in 2016.
