    3:06 PM EDT on April 15, 2025 After two months on strike, NYC Alamo United workers at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan locations declared victory on Monday and voted to return to work after Alamo's parent company, Sony, finally agreed to the union's demands. Alamo United workers sprang into action in February, days after Sony laid off a total of 70 workers from the two locations, citing a "post-holiday dip" in movie attendance.

    Last June, Hell Gate celebrated the return of the 99 cent slice to BD Star Pizza on Avenue A in the East Village. At the time, owner Sana Ullah told this publication that while inflation during President Joe Biden's term meant increases in the costs of things like flour, cheese, and even napkins, the market itself simply couldn't stand a $1.50 slice. He lowered the price back down to 99 cents, and saw demand restored.

    When we last checked up on the restrooms in Tompkins Square Park in 2022, they were easily some of the worst in New York City. Unspeakable objects bobbed in murky liquids, broken glass was scattered across smeared and chipped tiles, and the smell—opening the rusted, decrepit door to the men's bathroom was like prying loose the Ark of the Covenant. Nearly two years of construction work and $5.6 million later, the Tompkins Square Park bathrooms have been reborn.
