GRAND FORKS – MayPort-CG sophomore Nora Braaten had a pair of top-five finishes at the Red River Valley Conference Indoor meet at the University of North Dakota April 4. The sprinter finished second in the 60-meter dash last Friday, crossing the line in 8.38 seconds, a personal best for the young runner. She joined sophomores Zoey Mehus, Ella Flaten and senior Kayla Knudsvig as part of the girls 4x300-meter relay, which took third at the meet in a time of 3:11.12.

Residents living in Hillsboro’s mobile home court may receive individual water bills from the city in the future. The Hillsboro City Commission on Monday heard from Jimmy Johnson, a potential new owner of the mobile home park in Hillsboro. Johnson, a Florida resident, owns 13 mobile home facilities in Minnesota, including in New Ulm and Mankato, and has around another dozen properties across the country.

The Traill County Historical Society is gearing up for the 150th birthday celebration of Traill County. John Wright, president of the TCHS board, said a number of activities are planned for the event in June. A special edition of the Hillsboro Banner is planned for the event, along with tours of landmarks across the county. “On June 14, we will have open houses at the courthouse and museum to celebrate the 150th of the county,” Wright said.

GRAND FORKS – Keaton Saastad’s debut on the track this spring blew away his season-opening time from a year ago. The MayPort-CG senior finished sixth in the 200-meter dash Friday, March 28, at the Dick Clay Open indoor meet at the University of North Dakota. His time of 23.28 seconds was more than a second a half faster than his 24.82 mark he set in his first meet as a junior on the same track. Saastad also finished third in the 400-meter run and fourth in the 60-meter dash last week.

GRAND FORKS – A handful of MayPort-CG athletes debuted last week in the first track meet of the season. With 25 teams in attendance, the Patriots boys tallied two points and the MPCG girls finished with 4.5 to open the year March 21 at the Mike Grandall Open indoor meet at the University of North Dakota. “I felt like we had practiced for so long that it was just time to compete and see where we were at,” said second-year coach Tressta Kunkel.
