Santa Cruz, Calif. – The three major warehouse club retailers saw a pop in store visits during the first quarter, while Walmart and Target experienced declines in foot traffic. Among the group of five clubs and supercenters tracked by Placer.ai, Costco came out on top, with store visits up 6.1% for the period of January through March. Its membership warehouse competitors also experienced year-over-year traffic gains during the period, with BJ’s Whole Club up 4.0% and Sam’s Club up 2.7%.

Delft, Netherlands — Top 50 retailer Ikea just released its latest Sleep Report and company officials said the research identifies Ikea as “one of the world’s most popular reproductive assistants,” among many other findings. Using the answers from more than 55,000 respondents, the mega-retailer estimates that 6% of babies globally and up to 10% in Middle Eastern countries, were “produced” on an Ikea bed or mattress.

Washington — The United States and China announced a breakthrough trade deal Monday, agreeing to sharply reduce tariffs and pause retaliatory measures as both nations seek to end a costly trade war that has strained global markets. Following high-level negotiations in Geneva, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the two sides had committed to lowering reciprocal tariffs from more than 100 percentage points to 10% and entering a 90-day suspension of additional trade actions.

Nashville, Tenn. — Specialty home furnishings retailer Kirkland’s has closed on a $5.2 million expansion of its existing credit agreement with Beyond Inc., giving it more working capital and supporting the company’s ongoing store conversions to Bed Bath & Beyond and related properties. In addition to the expanded credit facility, the companies have entered into a purchase agreement providing for the future sale of Kirkland’s intellectual property to Beyond, subject to senior lender approvals.
