Minneapolis – Although Target is raising prices due to tariffs, its Back-to-College assortment this season will feature some exceptions. The retailer announced this morning that it will stick to 2024 price levels for select dorm décor and essentials for college-bound customers as well as key back-to-school items for the K-12 customer.

Minneapolis - Total home sales at Target were substantial in Q1, ringing in at more than $3.2 billion, but the trajectory continued downward. First quarter sales in the retailer's Home Furnishings & Décor segment have steadily dwindled since the Q1 boom in 2020. For the recent first quarter, the segment's sales decreased 8.5% year-over-year, down $299 million compared the same period in 2024, according to Target's 10Q filing with the SEC. Total company sales during the period were down 2.8%.

Washington – Overall retail sales continued to grow in May even though pull-forward spending from consumers worried about higher tariff prices cooled. The CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor calculation of core retail sales (excluding restaurants in addition to automobile dealers and gasoline stations) was up 0.23% month over month in May and up 4.2% year over year. That compared with increases of 0.9% month over month and 7.11% year over year in April.
